Dual-channel upconversion detector
The results of one of my last projects at Stanford, done in collaboration with Paulina Kuo and Xiao Tang of the NIST Information Technology Lab, on a dual-channel upconversion single-photon detector, have just been published in Optics Express (open access). You can also read a lay-level description of the research in NIST's internal publication Tech Beat: we're grateful for their interest in the work!
Here's a photo of the input of the device we made. Coming from the top is an optical fiber terminated in a glass ferrule which we've attached to the input of the waveguide (the transparent glass-looking chip). We think there should be some interesting further uses of this device in quantum communications systems.
